Lamborghini has finally unveiled its Egoista concept, a 600bhp megacar wrapped up in a aluminium and carbon fibre, as part of its 50th birthday celebrations. The design of the Lamborghini Egoista – which translates as “selfish” – is all about indulging the person fortunate enough to drive this 5.2-litre V10 with 600 hp motor (found previously in the Gallardo) and was inspired by an Apache helicopter (with carbon fibre and aluminium frame traditionally seen on lightweight F1 cars). And just like F1 cars, the Egoista has been made for one person only, and to get out of the car drivers must remove the steering wheel, lift up the roof and climb over the bodywork. It has no radio, no place for your shopping bags. And it doesn’t need any. It doesn’t even have an ordinary door. It is a pure driving machine that has been created only for one. Designed by Walter de Silva, the Egoista is simply one of the most extreme and radical exotics to have ever existed.

According to De Silva, it represents a survival cell, isolating the driver and protecting it from external elements. But it’s really the exterior of the Egoista that is shocking. The goal was to have it represent a raging bull preparing to charge, with its horns lowered. Flaps were integrated into the bodywork profile that act automatically depending on the driving conditions. Lighting on the Egoista is more fitting on an aircraft than a vehicle with LED clearance lights that determine its position in three dimensions rather than on a single plane.

It’s as if Ferruccio Lamborghini were saying: I’m going to put the engine in the back, I don’t want a passenger,” said De Silva on the Egoista. “I want it for myself, and I want it as I imagine it to be. It is a fanatical vehicle, Egoista fits it well.

So how much will the Egoista cost, if it ever hits production? Well, Lamborghini has already built the car, just the one, and there will be no duplicates. In a release the company says it is, “a gift from Lamborghini to Lamborghini… which no one can ever possess”. As such it will, “always remain a dream, for everyone”.
