Introducing the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante

Gentlemen, hold your horses. Introducing now the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, the ultimate grand tourer, the stunning product of 100 years of Aston Martin Power, Beauty & Soul.

Aston Martin revealed its new Vanquish model, the British automaker’s replacement for the outgoing DBS. While the Vanquish coupe isn’t due to arrive until next year, it remains a safe bet Aston’s engineers are busy working on several variants of this 565-bhp super coupe. It’s the first carbon fibre-bodied convertible in Aston Martin’s history and, like the coupe on which it is based, the Vanquish Volante is the ultimate expression of the famed English marque’s latest technology. With the same 565 horsepower and 467 pound-feet of torque as the Vanquish coupe, the top speed is also the same 293 kilometres an hour and, at 4.1 seconds, it’s just as quick to 96 km/h (60 miles per hour). It’s also almost as fast at dropping its top: 14 seconds is all that’s required for the Volante to go pas de toit (and will do so at speeds up to 50 km/h).

And in the case of the Vanquish, Aston Martin eschewed a fancy aluminum folding roof for a good old fashioned folding cloth one (which only means that without a roof, this beauty will let you constantly hear the best part of it, that of the fangtastic V12 bellow). The top can go down at speeds up to 30 MPH and folds in just 14 seconds.

Sales begin early next year, and the price of the Vanquish Volante is expected to hover around $300,000.
