Italian coachbuilder Zagato Atelier has unveiled its latest project, the Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake Zagato – to “pay homage to Zagato’s artistic, Italian coachbuilding tradition on the canvas of a shooting brake body shape”.
This does not come as a surprise though. See, Aston Martin and Zagato Atelier have been collaborating since 1960. The first Zagato Aston, the DB4 GT Zagato, was actually launched at the London Motor Show in October 1960. And the Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake Zagato also serves to complete the centennial trilogy – Zagato’s tribute to 100 years of Aston Martin – a range started in 2013 with the DB9 Spider Zagato Centennial and DBS Coupe Zagato Centennial.
This year Zagato celebrate 95 years of continual activity, three generations of Zagato family ownership and a host of dramatic and innovative designs. According to an official statement, the look offers a “modern interpretation with design cues of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Volante of the mid 80s. But, surface details aside, the Virage Shooting Brake Zagato is to carry over its original Aston Martin “heart” and “soul”, including the 490bhp V12 6.0-litre engine and rear-wheel drive layout.
Do note that the the Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake Zagato was actually commissioned by an unknown European client (and one very lucky autosaur, if we may add), and was unveiled at the Chantilly Art & Elegance show in France.
